Keywords:
alternative energy, wind, electricity powerAbstract
As tropical state, Indonesia has a lot of alternative energy resources, for instance : wind. Wind is being regarded as one of worth developing alternative energy to support electricity needs in West Kalilmantan. This study was arranged to know the potency of wind as power plants in West Kalimantan. This study was conducted by taking advantage of frequency distribution of wind speed and direction, then calculated them according to manual observation data of BMKG. The research came to the conclusions that the requirement to produce energy from winds with the average wind speed > 2.5 m/s can not be fulfilled. Nevertheless, the daily average wind speed can produce 290.6-2614813.9 Watt day/year and it is able to applied in household appliance utilization in some regencies (Mempawah, Kubu Raya and Ketapang).
